Our Team The Tryon Equine Hospital is staffed with two board certified surgeons, three associate veterinarians and an intern who are assisted by an experienced crew of technicians. They are all available for services at your farm or in the hospital to best serve your needs.

Bill Hay, D.V.M., Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Graduate of University of California- Davis Dr. Hay received his surgical training at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania. He was Chief of Staff at the University of Georgia Veterinary Hospital before joining Tryon Equine Hospital in 2000. His special interests include orthopedic surgery, airway surgery and other general surgeries as well as lameness evaluations.

Anne Baskett, D.V.M., Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons,
Graduate of the University of Montreal
Dr. Baskett received her surgical training at the University of Georgia. Dr. Baskett specializes in sport horse lameness and medicine and competes in both 3 day events and jumpers. She is an FEI Event Veterinarian for Dressage and Three Day Eventing and is the selector veterinarian for the Canadian 3 day team. She is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Her special interests include sport horse medicine and lameness. Dr. Baskett and her husband Dr. Hay have two children Katie and Emma.

Rich Metcalf, D.V.M., Graduate of North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine
After graduation Dr. Metcalf completed his internship and one year of a surgery residency. Dr. Metcalf has been with Tryon Equine Hospital since 2005 where he is focused on Field Services. He enjoys taking care of the whole horse, including lameness, medicine, minor surgical procedures, preventative and geriatric care as well as Emergency Medicine. Dr. Metcalf and his wife Suzanne have four children, Hunter, Smith, Carson and Tallis. Outside of work and spending time with his family, he enjoys the occasional jumper lesson, trail ride, and round of golf

Karine Nunes, D.V.M,
Graduate University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Karine Nunes was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where she grew up riding show-jumpers. After moving to Greenville, SC, Dr. Nunes decided to continue her studies in the US and complete her undergraduate studies in Kentucky at Murray State University. Dr. Nunes is a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the Tryon Equine Hospital team in 2004. Dr. Nunes has been serving the community as an ambulatory practitioner providing quality care on the farm as well as managing in hospital medicine cases. Her special interests include internal medicine, neonatal medicine and equine dentistry as well as emergency and critical care medicine. Outside the equine community, Dr. Nunes has developed an interest in camelid medicine and management as well as small ruminant medicine.
In her free time, Karine enjoys traveling within the US and internationally, reading, salsa dancing and spending time with her own pets.

Karen Reynolds D.V.M., Graduate Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine Karen grew up in “horse-y” Chester County, Pennsylvania, and spent all of her free time riding, caring for, and learning about horses. During veterinary school, she focused on equine and international medicine, traveling to Brazil, Mexico, and Malawi. Her post-graduate internship year was spent at BW Furlong & Associates in New Jersey, wintering with Dr. Furlong in Wellington and Ocala, FL. She also worked with critical camelid patients there, and developed a love for these unique species. Karen’s last 3 years were spent getting to know the greater Asheville area as an ambulatory practitioner with Appalachian Equine. Currently, she is completing requirements for FEI veterinary certification in Eventing. While Dr. Reynolds enjoys all aspects of veterinary practice, her special interests include lameness, sport horse medicine, diagnostic imaging, and emergency and critical care. Outside of work, she enjoys riding, attending area horse events, and hiking with her husband and dogs.

| Jenny Hunter D.V.M., Graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Jennifer Hunter grew up in Northern Kentucky, just on the other side of the Ohio River across from Cincinnati. She took an interest in horses early on after spending time on a Quarter Horse farm during the summers and going on to compete at the collegiate level (IHSA). Following graduation from Murray State University, she went on to receive her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Auburn University. She then elected to continue her education by pursuing an internship at Tryon Equine Hospital. Following her time at Tryon Equine Hospital, she plans to find a position as an ambulatory practitioner
Ashley Settles D.V.M., Graduate of The Univeristy of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine Ashley Settles grew up in Charleston, SC. She graduated from NC State University with a degree in Zoology and then received her DVM from UGA. She accepted an internship at Tryon Equine with the hopes of pursuing a large animal surgical residency.
